On Nov. 21st, 2013, the USST Student Affairs Forum on cultivation of international talent and innovation in management of university students was held at the SBC library. The Forum was organized by USST and operated by SBC. Mr. Zhou Qinjian, Deputy Director of International Affairs Department of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Mr. Phil Roebuck, Director of the British Chamber of Commerce and Prof. Ian Gow, Principal of SBC attended the forum as guest speakers. Meanwhile, the Vice Head of the Student Affairs Office at NYU Shanghai and representative of University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiaotong University Joint Institute were invited to join this forum and share their experiences on student affairs together with the Head of the Student Management Department at SBC.

In his keynote speech, Mr. Zhou Qinjian put forward suggestions on how to expand Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in running schools, as well as innovation in student management and development of SBC based on the analysis of new trends of educational internationalization and future government policies in China.

From the perspective of the different commercial cultures in China and Britain, Mr. Phil Roebuck said in his speech that students with a strong cross-cultural awareness would enjoy successful future careers – which is why the development of cross-cultural education is important not only for students but also for employers.

Professor Gow shared his own opinions and understandings on the cultivation of international talent, looking at the question from various angles including teaching, research, and administration and student management, which was quite refreshing for all the participants.

The speakers followed this with a wide-ranging discussion and exchange of ideas with all the participants on topics like the current features of educational internationalization, differences of cross-cultural communication and the core values of student management.

In his Closing statement, Mr. Sha Jun, Director of Student Affairs Division of USST, stated that he believed that through this forum all participants had enhanced understanding on educational internationalization, and he hoped that teachers who attended this forum would go on to make contributions to the development of education internationalization in China by efficient student management.
