On Wednesday the 27th February 2013, the first SBC video conference with Business School of the University of Salford was held in our Library Room 105. Over 90 SBC students and teachers joined this live video link-up with several academic staff and students from the University of Salford.

Eileen Roddy, Associate Dean International of Salford, gave a presentation on Global Outsourcing as a keynote speech for the conference. Mrs. Roddy not only introduced her definition, models and measurements for outsourcing, but also analyzed historical and modern drives for outsourcing, and discussed what benefits and risks will accompany the practice. In her conclusion, Associate Dean Roddy also mentioned potential opportunities for Universities to develop new subjects or conduct new research based on expansion and changes in global outsourcing.

Students who joined this conference expressed the opinion that it was had presented a great opportunity for them to get in face-to-face contact with some of academic talent at Salford as a way of finding out more about studying at the University.

Ben Griffiths, SBC E-Learning Coordinator and Economics teacher, offered his thanks to all the Salford team involved in putting in the effort that had made for such a successful video conference. Mr. Griffiths also gave special mention for an eye-opening discussion on an under-reported topic, which provided SBC attendees with plenty food for thought.

Ebba Brooks, International Partnership Officer, was deeply impressed by the enthusiasm of SBC students and teachers, and said how she already looked forward to future video link-ups. She also expressed her gratitude to her colleagues at SBC who helped this video conference.

The months ahead this semester will see three further video conferences with Salford Business School, the next to be held on March the 13, with the topic “What's it really like to study in Salford, Manchester?”
