On the evening of the 6th of December, the Sino-British College held its annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony, celebrating our students’ achievements through the academic year 2011/12. More than 400 students and staff attended the ceremony, which honoured students’ successes in both academic study and social contribution.
A total of five different categories of academic and special awards were awarded, the Principal’s Scholarship, Academic Excellence Scholarship, Social Work Scholarship, Social Activities Scholarship and Best Business Practice Scholarship respectively.
As recognition at the highest level for their all-round personal development, the Principal’s Scholarship was given to the top students in each grade. This year, 3 students won the final awards following their outstanding individual presentations, which were scored by a panel of judges. The winners were: Ding Dike (Engineering) in Year 4, Lu Yiyao (Events Management) in Year 3 and Da Wei (Engineering) in Year 2.
Professor Ian Gow OBE, Principal and CEO, congratulated all the winners for their hard work and impressive academic and social achievements, and added his thanks their contribution to the development of student organization and that of the college itself. Professor Gow added that the SBC had made great progress in year gone by, especially in establishing an alumni network to maintain contacts with graduates and ensure a platform for demonstrating the quality of our students and academic staff. In his conclusion, Professor Gow thanked students and staff who organized this year’s magnificent awards ceremony.
Lu Yiyao, winner of the Year 3 Principal’s Scholarship, expressed her excitement at winning the top award and earning such a significant piece of recognition. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her teachers and fellow students for their support. She also encouraged all the students present, “other students sitting in the audience are also good enough. If you keep trying, one day you yourself will win the scholarship.”
Following the awards ceremony, the students of SBC gave an artistic performance to cap off the evening. Professor Gow highly praised the extremely high quality of the music and singing.
