Professor Martin Hall, Vice Chancellor of the University of Salford, visited the Sino-British College on 13th November.
Professor Hall was accompanied by Professor Amanda J. Broderick, Dean of Salford Business School, and Michael Lurie, Associate Director of the International Conversion and Head of International Partnerships.
The University of Salford is one of the SBC’s UK partner universities, and has proved one of the most popular universities for SBC students over the last few years. According to the university’s placement statistics, there have been to date over 100 SBC students electing to study in Salford.
In 2011, University of Salford joined forces with six BBC departments and ITV at MediaCityUK, a leading international hub in the creative and digital sectors, and a vibrant destination to work, live and play. Students in Salford are here provided with exceptional opportunities to work with media professionals in a realistic industry environment, placing them in a prime positions for digital and media careers.
On behalf of the SBC senior management team, Professor Ian Gow, Principal and CEO of SBC, extended a warm welcome to Professor Hall and his colleagues. He introduced new developments that SBC had undergone in recent years, and discussed ways to establish closer relations between the two institutions, with strategies explored for advancing inter-collegial, degree-level teaching and research. Positive discussions were also made regarding potential University of Salford degree programmes to be run at SBC in the future. Sabrina Yang, SBC’s Director of Operations, gave her own presentation on enrolment and career services at the SBC. Professor Amanda J. Broderick, Dean of Salford Business School engaged in face- to- face dialogue with SBC students who had expressed their interest in studying in Salford in the future.
Professor Hall, along with his colleagues, also attended a University of Salford alumni reunion event held at SBC’s Tearoom. Over 50 alumni and partners took part in this reunion.
Professor Hall thanked Principal Gow and his team for all the support given by SBC to the University of Salford, and expressed his admiration at the rapid development at SBC. The University of Salford, Professor Hall continued, has always drawn on sources of knowledge from around the world and encouraged a high level of diversity, and for his University the successful cooperative efforts managed to date with SBC represent.
