On the 28th October, a group of SBC students volunteered at Shanghai’s annual Visit Finland Day, an event jointly organized by the Finnish Tourism Authorities and Asia Media Ltd., which aims to bring more tourists to the region as well as showcase the country’s unique cultural heritage.

The event was held at the Cool Docks, a famous Shanghai landmark. Over 60 SBC students offered their services as volunteers at the event, taking responsibility for receiving guests, handing out Finnish sweets and tourist pamphlets, helping children take their photo with Santa Claus, as well as vital logistical matters.

Hundreds of children and their families attended the event, which provided a big challenge for the organiser and volunteers in order to ensure the smooth running of all activities. It was likewise a great opportunity and a great challenge for students to be involved in such a big international event and also to gain invaluable work experience.

Tina M. Kanagaratnam, CEO of Asia Media and organiser of the event, thanked the volunteers for their help. She mentioned how previously she had been impressed by the great performance of SBC students at the Dulwich College Founder’s Day event, organized by her company in May. Having chosen to cooperate with SBC students at this event and once again been impressed, Tina mentioned how much she looked forward to working with SBC and its students in the future.
