On the 27th September, the SBC Student Union hosted a Welcome Party at the SBC English Tearoom for all our new international students, just a week into their SBC lives.

More than 80 international students from 20 countries and regions attended the party, together with members of the SBC academic and administrative team.

This year over 60 international students were accepted by SBC. This takes the total number of enrolled students from abroad to nearly 130, representing 30 countries and regions. Our overseas students see SBC as a great opportunity to study for a UK-accredited degree, while learning Mandarin and experiencing Chinese culture in Shanghai, China’s most modern and dynamic city.

As part of the evening’s entertainment, students enjoyed sumptuous traditional Chinese food and local Shanghai snacks as well taking part in a raffle draw and a number of party games. It was all in all a great opportunity for new international students to mingle and make friends with existing Chinese and international students at SBC.

In her welcome speech, Ma Qi, President of the SBC Student Union expressed the wish that international students would play an active role in SBC life: “We look forward to having more and more international students join us at the Student Union.” By working and playing together, Ma expressed her hope that both Chinese and international students will both improve their linguistic and communicative skills and strengthen their cross-cultural awareness, both for their own personal development and for the happiness and wellbeing of the ever-growing and ever more various student community.
