2012-07-0667

Maria McCabe, International Tutor from the Business School of the University of Leeds (LUBS) led the delegation. The delegation also included several student representatives from LUBS and it has become an annual event to help our students learn about the city and University of Leeds before they commence study in the UK.

During the three-day visit, SBC students received detailed information from the delegation through several lectures and seminars. The contents of the LUBS Pre-arrival and Accommodation Guides were shared and a variety of subjects were covered including how to arrange accommodation, open a bank account and manage money effectively in the UK. Student representatives from LUBS offered some tips about preparing appropriate personal belongings for life in the UK, based on their own personal experiences.

The delegation also gave a comprehensive introduction to academic life at LUBS based on the Programme Guide. They offered suggestions on how to choose modules and utilise the library facilities at LUBS. The student representatives also shared their thoughts on how to manage study time efficiently.

In addition, they introduced students to the social life on offer at LUBS and explained that students can make many new friends by joining the various student societies, university events and sightseeing activities alongside their busy study life.

After the visit, the delegation said that they were glad to have had the opportunity to offer SBC students a comprehensive overview of life at LUBS.  The SBC students who joined the sessions thanked the SBC Overseas Service Department and LUBS for organising such a helpful and informative programme on life at LUBS and living in the UK. They learned a lot from the delegation and now feel far more prepared for the challenges ahead.
