On 9th June, a group of students from SBC volunteered to dance at the British Chamber 'Coronation-Celebration' charity ball, which was hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce at the Kerry Hotel Pudong in Shanghai. The purpose of the ball was to celebrate the Queen of Britain’s Diamond Jubilee.
The Diamond Jubilee commemorates the Queen reaching 60 years as Monarch in 2012. The British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai arranged the charity ball on this happy occasion to celebrate the British monarchy. In addition, there was a Silent Auction with about 40 lots and the funds raised will be donated to four charities including CereCare Wellness Center for Children, Lifeline Shanghai, Lixin Charity Association and Mifan Mamas.
About 12 students from SBC were invited to perform a group dance at the ball following their excellent performance at the Silent Disco during the ‘Great Britain Street Exhibition’. In addition to dancing, students also offered assistance to help to ensure the smooth running of all activities. All the students involved expressed that they were happy to join this celebration and had a lot of fun at the Ball.
Karena Yu, Student Tutor (International students and Student Union Societies Coordinator) accompanied the students to the event and said, 'It is a great opportunity for students to be involved in such a high quality event. They met and worked with many people from different cultural backgrounds. The students’ performance impressed all the guests at that night, especially the organiser from the British Chamber Shanghai'.
