There is no doubt that for Sino-British College students, the best time of the year is the festive season when Year 3 Events Management students run a wide range of exciting events on campus. It has indeed become part of the Christmas tradition at SBC for students to share happiness and joy by lending a helping hand to people in need and those less fortunate than themselves.

During the week of 9th to 16th December, Year 3 Events Management students will host a variety of campus activities for different charitable causes. This year, students are working with four charities, JiuQian Volunteer Centre, Habitat for Humanity China, Mifan Mama and Shanghai Roots & Shoots.

To maintain the overall quality of the events and to ensure the charitable goals are met, the Events Management teaching team has set very strict guidelines to ensure the most suitable charities are supported.

Stacey Kurzendorfer, Head of the Events Management Division said, "We are very careful about selecting and approaching the charities that we will work with because we want to make sure that each of them can benefit the most from the enormous efforts made by our students."

"We also want to ensure that develop long-term relationships with both our selected charities and our sponsors. The charities involved support various causes such as building a brighter future for migrant children, providing gift boxes and raising money for disadvantaged children in various parts of China, helping underprivileged children get support for schooling and medical care, and providing adequate shelter and better housing for low-income elderly citizens."

"Some of our outside sponsors include the Blue Frog and other restaurants around Shanghai, IKEA, Starbucks, and Shanghai cultural celebrities like Gang of One and Spencer Dodington."

Ten events will be hosted on campus this year and they include a pop concert, 'Island Bonfire', a food festival, 'Journey of Mystery' and 'Century of Change in Shanghai.'

Dr William F. Smith, University of Huddersfield Degree Program Manager & Designated Academic Liaison Officer said, "The students have really impressed me with their abilities to attract outside sponsorship for each event. Contributions from sponsors range from financial support to donation of various types of resources."

"By applying theoretical concepts in a real world situation, students are gaining valuable soft skills such as client or vendor negotiations, report writing, and planning, as well as, insight into the dynamic events management industry. Personally, I cannot think of many university programs in China that offer such a valuable opportunity for undergraduate students."
