As one of SBC's core partner universities, the University of Sheffield has won the top prize of University of the Year at this year's Times Higher Education Awards.
The annual THE awards are seen as prestigious internationally recognised awards given to higher educational institutions in the UK with unique and outstanding achievement for innovation and inspiration.
The University of Sheffield is one of UK's leading universities with high-quality teaching and world-class research across a wide range of subjects. Its research partners and clients include Boeing, Rolls Royce, Unilever, Boots, AstraZeneca, GSK, ICI, Slazenger, and many more household names, as well as UK and overseas government agencies and charitable foundations. So far the University has had 5 Nobel Prize winners associated with it.
Judges said the University had "stood out as a result of a strategy based on its values and rooted in its founding principles" and praised the institution's "determination and grit" in focusing on its local community.
In August 2010, the Chinese Ministry of Education gave approval to the University of Sheffield to deliver their Business Management degree at the Sino-British College. Upon completion of the degree, the SBC students will be awarded a BA in Business Management from the University of Sheffield.
And the launch of the new Business Management degree in Shanghai in December 2010, with presence of Professor Keith Burnett, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, has been seen as a milestone in the partnership between Sheffield and SBC/USST for higher educational cooperation.
According to the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities done by Shanghai Jiaotong University, Sheffield ranks Top 10 in Britain, Top 30 in Europe and Top 100 in the world. Over the last three years, the THES world university ranking, which has been accepted internationally for a long time, confirms that the University of Sheffield consistently ranks higher than the other two pioneering Sino-Foreign Joint venture campuses in mainland China.
As a Sheffield graduate and former Vice President of Sheffield, Professor Ian Gow OBE, Principal of SBC is absolutely delighted about the wonderful news. "Sheffield is known for its high quality of teaching and cutting-edge research in a wide range of fields, and more importantly its business performance and engagement with the local community. We are really privileged to be able to work closely with the University and have its full support in degree teaching and hope to build successful research linkages as well."
Warmest congratulations to the University of Sheffield.
