SBC Celebrates Student Success

On the evening of 17 November, the Sino-British College held an annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony to celebrate the achievements that its students have made during the academic year 2010/11. More than 400 students and staff attended the ceremony, celebrating the students’ success in both academic study and social contribution. 

At the event, five categories of academic and special awards were awarded to over 500 excellent students, including Principal’s Scholarship, Academic Excellence Scholarship, Social Work Scholarship, Social Activities Scholarship and Best Business Practice Scholarship.

As recognition at the highest level for their all-round personal development, the Principal’s Scholarship was given to the top students in each grade. This year, out of the 16 qualified candidates, 3 students won the final awards after individual presentations scored by a panel of judges. The winners were: Zhu Jiajie (currently Year 2, Mechanical Engineering), Song Yumeng (currently Year 3, Accounting and Finance) and Zhang Zixin (currently Year 4, Electrical and Electronic Engineering). 

Professor Ian Gow OBE, Principal and CEO said: “This award ceremony, which recognises outstanding performance academically and socially, is a truly uplifting experience for our academic and administrative staff.

“In the process of selecting your award winners here today, we have learned so much about the outstanding talent we have in our programs and the progress you have made and your dreams for the future. It is truly inspiring and such a privilege to see our work to assist you, combined with your tremendous efforts, produce model students that world class university would be proud of.

“You all are providing a wonderful example for other SBC students to follow and to emulate. You have made us proud, your parents proud and I hope yourselves proud through your academic and social achievements as SBC undergraduates.

On behalf of the SBC academic and administrative team, please accept our warmest congratulations and thanks for making our efforts seem so worthwhile." 

Zhu Jiajie, winner of the Year 1 Principal’s Scholarship was very excited about winning the top award. In his acceptance speech, he thanked his teachers and fellow students for their support. He also said that as a university student, he would continue to work hard to fulfill his dreams and ambitions for the future. 

After the award ceremony, an arts performance was given by some talented Year 1 students who newly joined SBC this September.
