The 2011 SBC Graduates Employability Report was issued on 25th October. Students who graduated in July were the first ever SBC/USST students to complete a full UK bachelor’s degree entirely in Shanghai, marking a milestone in the establishment of SBC, notably at this transitional stage of development from Phase 1 to Phase 2.
The report aims to give an overview of the employment status of the 2011 SBC/USST graduates. It also provides an in-depth analysis of the current Chinese job market with latest data from major HR research centres in China. Examples of 'excellent graduates' from Events Management and Engineering are also included to illustrate the two main career choice pathways preferred by graduates, namely seeking a job placement or pursuing a Masters degree in China or abroad.
SBC is very fortunate to have a highly professional Careers Service and Development Centre offering a series of tailor-made career training sessions for students at SBC. The CSD Centre has also established an extensive network with international and domestic employers to ensure that students are well prepared for employment through internships and placements prior to graduation. Employment training through internship and voluntary work reflects the SBC approach to education.
Principal Ian Gow is quoted in the report 'the Sino-British College takes seriously its responsibility to prepare students in every way for a successful career and life after graduation'. By this he means that SBC does not only offer an international education, but also, more importantly it provides students with cross-cultural awareness and training for lifelong learning, which are vital for achieving success in today’s globalising world.
