2011-10-1375

The Sino-British College is committed to creating a genuine international university campus combining academic excellence and cultural diversity. To further improve student experience on campus, a number of lectures and presentations have been planned for the academic year 2011/12.

For the Lecture Series, which will be run on a fortnightly basis, academic staff at SBC will give talks on different topics that are of personal interest to the speaker and of potential value to the students. It is designed to provide students with a wider understanding of general subject areas while helping them get used to the English language learning environment.

The monthly SBC Culture Evenings held in the newly-built English Tea Room, are designed to develop multi-cultural awareness and general communicative skills by engaging students in less structured but more interactive discussion sessions. Topics will range from sports, music and art to languages and traditions of different cultures.

On 28 September, the opening lecture was given by Professor Ian Gow OBE, Principal of SBC on 'Foreign Higher Education Institutions in China – Past, Present and Future'. On 12 October, Colin Wanmer, Director of the School of Business and Communication also gave a talk on 'Living and Learning in England'. The announcement of these lectures has been very well received by students including those who have just joined SBC.

The Culture Evenings will be opened by David Cockayne on football and the community on 20 October. David is an Economics lecturer and also coach of the SBC Football Club and advisor for Sports and Sport Societies at SBC. Holding the 1st for Sport level 1, 2 and 3 UEFA accredited coaching badges in football and formerly a premier league signee with Everton.
