The 2011 NCUK counselling mission was held in the SBC Learning Resources Centre on the 7-9th March. A delegation of 18 representatives from the 9 UK partner universities (academics and international officers) attended the annual event.
The university entrance counselling mission aims to enhance mutual understanding between SBC and the British partner universities. It provides guidance and advice for SBC students in choosing universities and courses for their future study in the UK.
In this year's event, 340 SBC students received a highly professional counselling service provided by the university representatives in relation to courses and subjects, student life overseas, and career opportunities after graduation.
According to the statistics from the Overseas Service Department, a number of NCUK universities attracted over 200 students for counselling (each student can receive counselling services from up to five universities). One of the typical responses is from Claire Mulholland, International Officer at the highly popular University of Leeds. She said: "We find SBC students are very well-prepared for studying with us, not only in terms of their English language proficiency, but also academically. Actually last year, the Dean of the Business School wrote a letter to SBC to say how well SBC students were doing at our university."
The university representatives reported that they were impressed with the self-confidence, English language proficiency and communicative skills that SBC students have demonstrated during the counselling process. They were also impressed with the academic and administrative achievements that SBC has made over the last year, particularly in upgrading campus facilities, strengthening academic teaching and internationalising the student body.
